## Overview

An audience is a saved set of conditions for finding companies and people.
Its results change as records meet or stop meeting those conditions. Use an
audience to review a recurring group, such as target accounts showing recent
website activity or contacts in a particular role at those accounts.

Company conditions determine which accounts qualify. People conditions narrow
the contacts at those companies. For example, select companies with at least
100 employees, then limit people to your target job titles. The preview shows
both groups so you can check the account and contact selection separately.

To collect records whose membership you manage directly,
[create a list](/reference/lists#create-a-list).

## Build your audience

<Steps>
  <Step title="Start an audience">
    In the **Leads** menu, open
    [Audiences](https://app.unifygtm.com/dashboard/audiences). Click
    **New audience**, then **Create new**.

    To start from an existing audience, choose
    **Duplicate and edit an existing audience** instead.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name and share it">
    Give the audience a name that describes its criteria or purpose. Choose
    who can view or edit it. New audiences use **Invite only**; share with
    selected teammates or choose workspace-wide access as appropriate.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose companies and people">
    Under **Companies**, click **Add condition** to define the accounts you
    want. Use company fields, activity, list membership, or related CRM data.
    Under **People**, add any conditions that should narrow the contacts at
    those accounts.

    Choose **and** to require every condition. Choose **or** to allow a match
    on any condition. Use groups for a combination of the two. The
    [filter builder guide](/reference/filter-builder) explains these controls
    and related-record filters.

    Switch between **Companies** and **People** in the preview to review
    the matches. In this example, list membership and company size narrow
    three planning accounts to two companies and their three contacts.

  </Step>

  <Step title="Review exclusions and save">
    Enabled exclusions remove matching companies or people from the audience.
    Review **Modify exclusions** under **Advanced** if the preview is missing
    records you expected. Disabling an exclusion here changes its use for
    this audience.

    Click **Create audience**. Open the saved audience and review its
    **Companies** and **People** tabs before taking action on the results.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Work with the audience

Use search and columns to review the results. You can export a CSV or use
**Add to sequence** to begin the enrollment review. Follow the
[sequence enrollment guide](/reference/sequences/enrollments) for prerequisites
and eligibility checks.

For ongoing workflows, use the audience in a
[play trigger](/reference/plays/triggers#record-enters-audience) or configure
[Slack alerts](/tutorials/how-to-receive-slack-alerts).

## Update the criteria

Open the audience's options menu and choose **Edit**. Change the conditions,
sharing, or exclusions, review the preview, then click **Update audience**.
You need edit access to change a shared audience.

Changing the criteria changes which records qualify. Review any plays or
alerts that use the audience before making a change that broadens or narrows
its scope. To make a separate variation, choose **Duplicate & modify** from
the options menu.

For example, add an alternative condition to include Willow Works alongside
accounts that qualify by size. The updated audience contains three companies.
See [grouped conditions](/reference/filter-builder#group-related-conditions)
for this example's logic.
